Before becoming a mum I would have described myself as a fun runner, I never ran any races apart from maybe race for life. I didn’t care much for running I did it maybe twice a week when I was a bit skint and the sun was shining instead of going to an indoor circuit’s class. I found it hard, really hard I was forever doing couch 2 5k apps and never really running/walking above 3.5 miles.
Since becoming a mum running is my thang! I love it I just put my trainers on and go. Not much need to find a baby sitter because you’re only gone about an hour tops so Dad can do his bit.

Here are a few benefits of Running…
1. Time- Time is a precious thing as a new mum, you don’t want to miss anything your newborn does and you don’t want them to miss you while you’re away. Going to a class can be very time consuming travel to the class, the class itself, travelling home, plus the shower afterwards. My problem is I end up chatting to everyone for hours on end after the class is finished.
I love that with running you get changed and go! No time wasting just go!
2. Cost- It’s free!!!!! Unless you develop a very unhealthy obsession to lycra like me! I love a new pair of leggings, a top or even a pair of shiny compression sock.
3. Mental wellbeing- I need to run to be me for a bit. To listen to a podcast or a few songs or sometimes just silence (it’s a rare thing). Being stuck indoors with a baby all day can make you need to escape for a short while. A welcomed break from the bottle washing and sterilising and nappy changes. It’s nice to be alone and think about something different for a little bit. A bit of a focus away from being a mum for a bit and just to be you.
4. Physical- The weight starts to fall off! Not in a matter of 2 weeks like we all wish for like some kind of miracle but after a month or so it does start to come off. Mine started to come off when I least expected it, when I was so involved in smashing goals and the weight loss didn’t matter anymore it started to seriously come off. So keep going and stop worrying.
5.Baby benefits- Motherhood is sometimes frustrating and always hard so do your baby a favor and go grab some feel good endorphin's. They need a happy Mummy with a bag full of energy so go find that hour or so a week to do something for you and in turn it will benefit your little one. Although it’s very important for your little one to bond with you it’s equally important for them to create a bond with the people around them. So why not ask your other half or one of the grandparents just to watch the little one for an hour while you go out for a run.
